Virtualize external OS hard drive
Virtual Machines, Virtual machine management, Acronis True Image, VMware, Virtual PC
I have a hard drive that has an operating system on that was backed up using Acronis.  I would like to make this hard drive a virtual machine so I can use it for testing on VMWare or Virtual PC.  I don't have the original machine the hard drive was backed up on so could anyone please tell me if there is a program that I can use to create an image of this hard drive with to make it a virtual machine?[o:p][/o:p]

I would greatly appreciate any feedback you may have.

Have you contacted Acronis support about this? They have a program that will allow you to restore that image to any given hardware - possible an app to do specifically what you're looking for.

Kevin - the image that Acronis speaks of is a "ghost" copy of the orginal hard drive so all I have at this point is a copy of the original with no box to run the back up, restore or reimage the hard drive with which is why I am trying to find a way to convert the hard drive into a virtual machine.

Using what VM technology?

If I could virtualize the hard drive to work as a virtual machine with VMWare or Virtual PC that would be good since I am familiar with those programs. If there are other virtual machine programs out there that I can use and can virtualize the hard drive into, that is fine also. Just getting the job done is what I am looking for and I am willing to pay for a solution at this point if needed.
