Virtual PC

Windows, Windows Server 2003, Exchange 2003, Exchange server software, Windows client administration and maintenance, Virtualization

I am preparing to start using an Exchange Server on our network. As part of this preparation, I want to run some tests using Virtual PC.
Can anyone tell me how Virtual PC deals with licenses? Will it use up one of my licenses if I install Exchange Server on Virtual PC?

Thanks

Nick

Hi Nick,
I have installed lots of different Windows Servers and apps, including Exchange, inside VIrtual PC/Server, and VMware.
Rarely have I had any licensing trouble demoing/testing apps.

I'll tell you, the easiest way to try Exchange 2007 is to download the VHD test drive directly from Microsoft. At that point, there is nothing to install, you just start it / run it, in Virtual PC. It is a limited time VM, I believe. Here is an article on that:

Here at TechTarget, there is a great article covering Exchange 2007 licensing.

I hope that helps.

Thanks for this info. I am now downloading the Exchange VHD, and will hopefully be testing it out next week.
