    Host machine can definitely get harm if they are under network, so any malware with a network component will propagate. VM acts as an attacker unless u are switching files between the partitioned parts of hard drive. But is is very rare case.

    How do you mean "damage"? If you're referring to malware, the answer is quite possibly. There are lots of variables so more information would be helpful.
