A SearchStorage.com reader recently asked: We are using ?Veritas Backup Exec 9.1? for our Windows Server 2000 to backup data. This program is not working and we cannot backup the data. The error message is: ?Device could not be backed up because an error occurred while connecting to the Remote Agent for Windows Servers. Make sure that the Remote Agent for Windows Servers is running on the target computer.?

Thanks. We'll let you know when a new response is added.

Are you trying to backup local drives or drives on a different server ? If the drives are located on a different server than where the software is loaded then you will have to install the Remote Agent for that server.

Also if you have upgraded from a previous version then all remote agents need to be reinstalled. If the remote machine is still running NT then it will give you this error as well, I cant remember if the 9.1 remote agent works with NT, I am sure some one else will pipe up and say if it does or not. They pegged it right off. You need Remote Agent installed on any server you are trying to back up. 9.1 is okay to run on NT, as we have an older Exchange server backing up on Veritas BackupExec. Oh yeah, make sure you have permissions to any remote servers you're trying to back up as well...Hope this helps.
