Q:
Veritas Backup exec 12 with Lotus notes
I have both the veritas and lotus notes on the save server with windows server 2003.

I have a veritas backup 12. I can backup other files and I can
restore it(i.e. I can see it in the restore list while starting the
restore steps). If After Backuping up the mail files of lotus notes 7 I
try to restore the same mail files but suprising is that I dont see any
mail files which I can restore it in that list.

Please can I have your advise on this.

Thank you very much for your assistance.

You probably need to buy a Domino API from Veritas and use that option for backups. When the Domino API is called by the backup exec, it communicates with Domino to negotiate a lock on the file. Any changes that need to occur to that file are stored in a .BIB file until Veritas is done backing it up. When the Veritas Domino API releases the lock, Domino writes changes stored in the .BIB to the file.

You backup is then a file that can be restored and there are no conflicts with Domino.

I learned about this last week, so this is the sum total of everything I know on the subject.

If I remember correctly Veritas excludes all .NSF and .NTF as default….

If this is the case then you will have to change this in the Veritas configuration and then schedule the backup. The Domino open file agent does not have to be used but the only way you can be sure the data is backed up then is to set shutdown of the domino server before backup and then start it backup automatically afterwards. Backing your data up will work (possibly) but is not supported.
