I have a complete Opt 21 save tape from my current 520 running V6R1. I have the following license pgms installed...Performance tools, DB2 query & SQL Dev kit, WDS, Client access. We found another 520 box(hardware upgraded), it has been wiped clean , no OS. Can I useĀ our opt 21 tape and restore it to this box without it asking me for the license keys or registration?

Thanks. We'll let you know when a new response is added.

IBM gives you I think 70 days before the keys have to be entered for that serial number.
Other third party software may give you a temp, or test box key for the duplicate or Disaster Recovery system. Never hurts to ask.

Can I use our opt 21 tape and restore it to this box... Yes. ...without it asking me for the license keys or registration? No. (If you could, what would stop you from restoring on as many boxes as you wanted to run simultaneously?) Tom

Tom, Okay, we have the keys, I was just trying to see if i should be prepared to call IBM for assistance in case we have license key errors. In the past i have always restored the opt 21 to the same box without any issues with registration. Thanks Stephen Stephen

...we have the keys,... As long as they are keys for the serial number of the new box, there shouldn't be any problem. Tom

Most licensed products allow for a "grace period". IBM commonly sets 70 days as theirs to give time to obtain keys, run tests, etc. You will be asked for keys, but it shouldn't be required to enter them. You will be reminded regularly via QSYSOPR and possibly elsewhere depending on what is used. Once the grace expires for a license, the associated product may continue to work or not. In the past, the OS has continued to run past grace as long as the the system isn't IPL'd. Assuming it still works that way nowadays, if an IPL is needed after that, it's back to a scratch install. Other products, e.g., SQL Dev Kit, will stop allowing development (though DB2 SQL function will execute). Sorry for misunderstanding. The system will request keys. You just have some time before they're required to be entered. Tom
