V3R7

My 9401-150 V3R7 cannot start.

Using 02BN got C90028C5

Using 02BM connected PC console

Select [perform an IPL] system hang at [B90031FF]

I google [B90031FF], there are PTF for B90031FF for higher OS version.

Can anyone help?

I'd guess that there are three directions that you can go. First, power off and back on to try a new IPL. Second, you might be lucky enough to find someone with a Service Aids manual that can help pinpoint the problem. That manual was usually only held by IBM service personnel, so it's not easy to come by especially for a system as old yours (15+ years). And third, one or more used AS/400 dealers might be able to help diagnose the problem. Someone will likely have a part if it's a real hardware fault.

The age of your hardware is more than 15 years. In Feb 1998, the enhanced model 150s were released with V4R2. That's the oldest I can find official reference to. A V3R7 system would be at least one and likely two years older.

There are no PTFs available for V3R7 unless you can find someone who still has V3R7 with all available PTFs installed and who still has the original PTF savefiles or install media.

The problem arose when the system was generating internal system objects. A new IPL might get you past it. I don't know if that model 150 allows both full hardware diagnostics at IPL and a 'soft' IPL. I might do a 'soft' first if possible. If it starts, I'd definitely do multiple saves immediately. If it was an IOP hardware failure, the IOP will probably have to be replaced.

That's one IPL step beyond the previous C90028C5 (as far as I can tell for a 150), but still fairly early in the IPL sequence. Have you only tried a single IPL? Have you completely powered down between IPLs? -- Tom

    Yes, I did twice

press button [08], system down, and cut the power, and all light was off

start again using 02 BM, connect console, IPL,

    both got C9002910

    Thank you

An internet search for used AS/400 parts will bring up various dealers. I would contact a couple of them, especially if they have used model 150s or parts for them. I would tell them that I had an IPL that ended at SRC C90028C5 and another IPL with SRC C9002910. The only diagnostic SRC known is B90031FF.

    Then ask a couple questions.

First, do they have model 150 parts available? And if they do, second, can they give any guidance on diagnosing which parts need replacement?

I can't think of other good ways to track the problem down on equipment that old.

There is one other possibility that might find someone in the world with experience. Try posting to the [ comp.sys.ibm.as400.misc ] newsgroup. That's an old newsgroup that has been followed for many years by quite a few developers around the world. You might get lucky.

I don't think anything more can be done through this forum unless someone has a Service Aids manual that works for a model 150.
