I am trying to find a free or reasonably priced utility to search my entire exchange mail store to locate items for legal. I have about 60,000 active mail boxes and about 200,000 total in the store. I'll run it on the test box or weekend if necessary. I do not want to have to buy an archival solution to search my mail store, at least not right now.

Hello,

You can go to SNAPFILES.COM and click on the Freeware tab or the Shareware and find different packages available.

We use Sherpa Software's Discovery Attender (DA). It's not free but is definitely not expensive. We don't have as many users as you (600) but on the assumption that Legal/Chiefs give you some kind of clue as to what they're looking for - content, attachments, dates, recipients/senders etc etc then it works fine. Without search parameters you're dead in the water, hold your ground and get good background info before wasting days searching for the wrong stuff. Content searching in DA is painfully slow as there's no Index, but most other things work OK - plus there's pretty good result handling (copy/move to file/pst, or delete, using original folder structures or not) and good documentation (OK, you have to create CSVs and do some work from there, but everything is there for you). Or you might want to look at ISYS - I've not used it but have done some research into alternatives, it creates an Index so should be quick - a bit more expensive than DA but still on the cheap side. Hope this helps Cheers
