using windows 2000 professional as a server

Can you use Windows 2000 Professional to host a website? I just recently came across someone that was getting rid of their computer and it has Windows 2000 Professional. I currently make websites and I am wondering if I can use this computer as a host. Thanks

You can use it for a development machine probably. You won't be able to use it for production use as IIS on Windows 2000 Pro only allows 10 users to connect at any one time.

if you do not need windows or ASP/.net, (on the server),then you could format and install SME server. it is a free server implementation that installs CentOS as the OS, web server, ftp, email, ssh. DHCP, DNS and others. you could install that and use that to host your sites. it works well and is well supported.

What you might want to consider in this case is reusing the hardware and installing a copy of Windows 2000 Server on it.
