replacing v5.2 box with new box running 5.4. Both boxes running security level 20 (password security) and I have no users on any authorization list. Right now both boxes on same network so I am able to use iSeries navigator to drag and drop uers from one box to the other. When I do this I know the users will have to reset their password but that is not a problem. I used to use savsecdta and then rstsecdta and then rstaut, but this drag and drop is so much easier. Will I still get everything I need using the darg drop method vs savsecdta, rstsecdat and rstaut. I don's see any authority info when I drag and drop. Any body tried this operation using iSeries navigator?

Thanks. We'll let you know when a new response is added.

I cannot see how you could possibly get the same results without doing a RSTAUT. I would not do it that way except for setting up NEW users.

I would not recommend Drag & Drop to restore the whole users from one system to the others. Savsecdta & rstsecdta followed by a rstaut is your best solution. We use Drag & drop to move specific users from one system to the other and it may ended with errors. For example, user A is member of group X who owns object Z on system 1. If you use drag & drop user A to system 2, it will ended up with errors if group X & Object Z are not already there. So you may have a lot of reconciliation to do for a mass transfer.

I pretty much agree with everyone else. The drag and drop method would only be good for building a new system just to get the users over there. Even then you will have problems with non-existent assigned Groups, OUTQs and JOBDs I guess it might also work for adding new users where you know the group profiles are already there and ownership and authority are only obtained though the groups. Private authorities to objects is only saved with the SAVSECDTA and only rebuilt after doing a RSTUSRPRF and RSTAUT.
