Using a hard drive to back up
What is the difference between full, incremental and differential backups? Our computer is situated in the parish office, and contains confidential information such as a parishioner database and parish accounts. We have purchased a separate hard drive to back up our data, and are keeping it in the safe when it is not being used. We have made a full back up, but would like to know what kind of back up we should make from now on.

Take a look at this <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Incremental_backup">wikipedia entry</a> for orientation to the different backup types. In your situation, it would probably be easiest to just perform a full backup but keep copies of the previous full just in case you need to go back to a previous version. For example, keep 3 copies of the full backup and the 4th copy will overwrite the 1st oldest and so on. This is providing that the drive has enough storage space and that the backups do not take a long time to perform.
