I work in retail industry. I have several branches who get mails from the exchange server at HQ. Recently one of our branches experienced an issue whereby the users could not send/receive mails using smtp but they can use OWA. Apparently one machine on their network is okay. The error message on the users machines are "Connection to the server has failed account <server IP> SVR <server ip> protocal smtp port 25 secure (ssl). no socket error 10060 error number 0x800CCC0E.
I've done tests and when i use the working machines's ip on another machine, i'm able to connect. Is there a possibility ip's are being blocked? where can i check this?
Another strange thing i've seen is that mails stuck on outlook for non working machines are sent at night or ealry morning but this happens once in a while so the more reason i doubt about ip blocking.
The exchange server runs on windows 2003 and exchange 2003. The end users pc's are running on windows XP and outlook 2003.
All other applications accessed from head office are okay. What would be the problem with this branch?
