Hello,

I work in retail industry. I have several branches who get mails from the exchange server at HQ. Recently one of our branches experienced an issue whereby the users could not send/receive mails using smtp but they can use OWA. Apparently one machine on their network is okay. The error message on the users machines are "Connection to the server has failed account <server IP> SVR <server ip> protocal smtp port 25 secure (ssl). no socket error 10060 error number 0x800CCC0E.

I've done tests and when i use the working machines's ip on another machine, i'm able to connect. Is there a possibility ip's are being blocked? where can i check this?

Another strange thing i've seen is that mails stuck on outlook for non working machines are sent at night or ealry morning but this happens once in a while so the more reason i doubt about ip blocking.

The exchange server runs on windows 2003 and exchange 2003. The end users pc's are running on windows XP and outlook 2003.

All other applications accessed from head office are okay. What would be the problem with this branch?

Regards,

Florence

Probably the port combination ad ssl both are not working properly. U can enable ssl with port 465, or else try a non-ssl port like 587 or 25. Try to change the send port to 587 and see if it works. This is my assumptions. One more thing might be happened If u r using personal firewall, try reduce the security level / disable it to observe if it happens again. Make sure the SMTP cpuld be blocked..... try to test by going to CMD and type as: telnet mail.<yourdomain> 25. And if it shows any message, then it is OK else it is blocked. Rechil thanks for the responce. I have changed the port to 587 and disabled the Pc firewall but still no change. I have done a telnet from the non working machine and it's not going through while the working machine is okay. This means the port is blocked but from where? NB. My exchange server is used by all my branches and this is the only branch which has an issue. Where can i check the blocked port from?

...this is the only branch which has an issue. Where can i check the blocked port from? Can you describe the connectivity for this branch? Is this the company's network? Or does the branch connect through a separate ISP? Tom
