If you are trying to establish an initial client access connection it will fail. It gets hung up on the expired password and forcing you to change it thing . If there is a “green screen” near by you can try your profile log on there, see if it prompts you for the password change. If not it may be one of the other solutions already listed here

If you’re unable to access it, how can you tell what its state is? You have to access the profile in order to retrieve its state.
