I have a machine (which is not the domain controller and I have only remote access to this machine) on a domain X. I tried to promote this machine as a domain controller (domain name Y), during which this machine got disjoined from the domain X. I had logged in as a user from domain X when trying to install AD on this machine. After the installation and reboot I could no longer login as this user.
Which user should I use to login to this machine after installation?
I don't know the local administrator password, so can I create another local user (add it into the Administrator Group), and use this user to access the machine after installation, but I am completely new to setting this up.

You promoted the machine to a domain controller in domain Y; therefore, the machine no longer has a local administrator. You use the domain’s administrator account for Y as Technochic mentioned.
If you are trying to make a trust between X and Y. Use Active Directory Domains and Trusts.
First important question – did the machine become a domain controller in domain Y?
Is it part of that domain or did it get pushed out to a workgroup.
@Technochic – Is the administrator account created automatically? How do i figure out the password for this account?
@RichS – after the reboot of the machine post installation, I could see that only domain Y is listed for login, so I presume the machine did become a domain controller
Solved, I was not aware of the Administrator password for this machine, so I created another admin user(part of the Administrators Group) and then ran the installation for domain controller and was later able to login as this user.
