USB device not recognized

I have 1 tb portable which I have using for some time now. The problem is when I connect my PC running Windows XP SP3, it shows "USB device not recognized and.............." But the same works on other PC running Windows XP SP3. Kindly help it's urgent please.

Did you check Device Manager to see if there were any driver errors? If both machines are running the same O/S, I would want to track down what is different, and drivers are the first thing that come to mind. Do you have any other issues with USB devices on the problem machine?

    Sounds like there may be a missing driver. Another possibility is what version of a USB connection 2.0 / 3.0. If the drive is a 3.0 the other pc may not be compatible.

    it is also possible that the drive is conflicting with another drive.  Go into My Computer, then manage and then storage to look to see if the drive is conflicting with another drive that exists already.  If this is the case, then change the drive letter of the conflicting drive.
