USB connect

WinXP Pro 2.8mHz 1024 RAM 160g HDD When I connect my scanner to one of the 6 USB ports, the O/S recognizes the scanner, but when I try to access the scanner it says can't find the hardware. Same thing when I connect my camera; it recognizes the camera, then I can't access the pictures. I connected an external USB HDD which it recognized by name, then wouldn't let me access the drive using Windows Explorer. In each instance it recognized the device by name, then indicated it was ready to use. I'm able to use my flashdrive with no problem. I can plug any/all of these devices into other machines with no problems. Frustrated.

The system has been rebooted at least a dozen times. All the ports show the drivers installed and no problems. The scanner started working??, but the camera and the USB HDD still won't work. It shows them hooked up, just can't access them.
