My Asus laptop runs Windows 10 on it. Now, the USB 3.0 port is not working at all. When it's not even plugged in, I'm still getting this message: Device Manager says that there is an "Unknown USB Device (Device Descriptor Request Failed. What should I do here?

Thanks. We'll let you know when a new response is added.

If you are getting messages with nothing plugged into the USB port (empty)  you may have a damaged port that could be shorting out and causing errors. The only other thing you may want to try is to update the drivers. You can probably find them at the Asus website

Nowadays, most of the laptops have one USB 3.0 port, it might cause that the port is not working properly. You can try the same with another laptop/desktop PC and check either it is working, For troubleshoot, you can link here, https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/2654149/error-usb-device-not-recognized-when-you-try-to-access-a-usb-external-hard-drive.

It seems to be a driver issue. Check if drivers are updated?

That appears to be a failed driver patch. You will need to go into device manager and find the failed USB Port and uninstall the driver for it. and then go and get an updated driver for it. I have seen this issue before and the generic patches that Microsoft issues do not always work properly. You may have to go to ASUS support site to get the correct and updated driver.

Go to Asus website. Go to support section, search for your model (ex: mine is B53S) Drivers & utilities, your laptop`s OS, USB, Fresco USB3.0 Driver, and download it.

Extract the zip in a folder, execute the .exe file.
At the install window, you get 3 choices. repair, modify, or uninstall.
    Choose uninstall.

Then click again on the .exe file, and install it.

    Your problem should be solved.

    PS
    I am using Win7 64
On my laptop didn´t work at all... not even charged the smartphone.
Now is running like hell   :-)

Moreover, for USB 3.0 it is necessary to install proper software driver. Without installing this may not work or does not recognize flash drive. At first you have to install the proper driver then try for the same.
