Below is the link to IBM Redbooks i5/OS Program V6.1 Conversion information that should guide you on how to how to run program ANZOBJCVN and will explain how to understand the report output.. You can download and print the manuall for reference .Basically watch out for which library objects will not convert to V6.1 and check the summary of objects and spool files for the total time to convert to V6.1 format.

Did you run the ANZOBJCVN OPTION(*REPORT) RPTTYPE(*CVNPRB) after the *COLLECT? It's the only report I found really useful. It will tell you which programs will not run after the conversion that need to be dealt with. Also, did you consider going directly to 7.1? We did that, from 5.4 to 7.1 and it was no big deal. No more work or worries than going from 5.4 to 6.1.

Thank you. Yes i ran ANZOBJCVN OPTION(*REPORT) RPTTYPE(*CVNPRB) and got a report which says all objects will convert.. thats good news i guess. So is there is no difference in the way I handle 5.4 to 7.1 or 6.1? Can i expect objects that convert to 6.1 to not convert to 7.1? Actually we are upgrading our application and the new version requires a minimum 6.1 as OS and hence we have not really studied the benefit of 6.1.

Based on explanation from our IBM business partner, an object that can convert to 6.1 should also convert to 7.1. IBM changed some code that is very close to the metal in 6.1. 7.1 just builds on that change. To the best of my knowledge, this type of change has only happened twice since the introduction of the IBM i family - V3R1 and i5/OS 6.1.

Yes, conversion to 6.1 and 7.1 are the same. I was initially hesitant to skip 6.1 and go directly to 7.1 but now I'm glad we did. One less thing to do someday.

Hi, Can you please share any Approach document or Checklist or Set of steps to perform V5R3 or V5R4 conversion to either V6R1 or V7R1 i5/OS. Any help on this can be greatly appreciated. Thanks - Raj
