Upgrade path for Windows 2000 Adv Server to Windows Server 2008R2
If we have a Windows 2000 Advanced server and want to upgrade to Windows 2008 R2 can we upgrade? Is there a upgrade path from 2000? The hardware is relatively new as we just bought the box to migrate the 2000 system off of a failing system. What is my best method?

Software/Hardware used:
windows 2000 advanced server, windows 2008

Answer Wiki:
The supported upgrade paths are available in this document from Microsoft. In a nutshell there's no upgrade path as you can't upgrade from x86 to x64 and Windows 2008 R2 only comes in an x64 platform. You'll need to do a format and install the new OS.
