i will try to update the iSeries access once i got back in the office. and try it again. i think language incompatibility might be one factor as this reports are for a japan based company. but i did try digging up from those old reports of ours but it was not having the same issue. I've have tried retrieving the file from the first source but still the same result.I very much appreciate all the help guys. Thanks

It looks as if the two systems are not fully compatible or that your PC is not compatible. The literal constants in the spooled file are okay, but the data values are not. That might indicate a language or CCSID incompatibility. For example, the data values might be generated on a system that has a valid setting for QCCSID or some language system value, but the other system is set for QCCSID 65535 or doesn't have the same language attributes. Can you retrieve a similar spooled file from the first system to your PC and view it with Notepad? -- Tom

Before you do anything else, you need to get a decent fix pack applied to iSeries Access. Yours is extremely old and should have been updated at least six years ago.
...it has to be moved on the other box for it will be used for development purposes.

How can a restored spooled file be used for "development"? Why can't you just generate a spooled file on that system and use that spooled file for whatever you are developing?

...but I can see the details I used for the restoration.

What does that mean? Where do you see them? What do you see?

In order to help in any useful way, we need to know the spooled file definitions on both systems. That needs to include the printer file definitions on both systems as well as device descriptions if specific devices are part of the printer file definitions. We don't know if definitions that were used to generate the printer data stream on the first system will make sense on the second system.

When you say it looks "encrypted", we need to know what that means. Show us a few dozen characters from Notepad. You said you used iNavigator and Notepad; does that mean that you used drag and drop from iNav? If it looks "encrypted", it could be an ASCII/EBCDIC issue or it could be a printer data stream issue (e.g., AFPDS or *USRASCII) or something else.

Also, what is the iSeries Access version on your PC and what is its Service Level?

Some times backing up and restoring on to a machine under a different release can cause issues. Are the two machines running under the same OS and release? If you are just tring to restore specific spoolfiles or OUTQ objects from the backup you could try restoring them to lib QTEMP on the machine it was backed up on. Then check it out there or move it to another work area. Does this need to be on the other box?
