UNC over WLAN issues

UNC, WLAN, NetBIOS

For some reason I cannot get UNC to work over the WLAN connection I have setup in my office. UNC works if I'm connect through a ethernet port though. I've tried adding the IP of my wirless AP to the 2k3 server resolving the UNC connections to no avail. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

This is certainly an odd situation. Here are a couple of things you can try:

1. Replace the hostname in the UNC path with the IP address of the host that you are attempting to access.
2. If you are attempting to connect to a multi-level UNC path, try only connecting to the base share.
3. Check to see if NetBIOS is enabled on the AP.

Here is a question:

How does the AP connect to the wired network?

1. When I use an IP address to resolve the computers/sever
it works, just not using UNC.

2. No form of UNC path works, regardless of it’s hierarchy.

3. NetBIOS being disabled on the AP should not be a problem since I am not using any kinds of ACLs that would prevent it.

It’s plugged into a switch port on a Cisco catalyst switch. The port that it is plugged into is trunking and packets are tagged from the AP.

Thanks in advance.
