Here is my network setup: Exchange 5.5 Server running on a Windows 2000 Server Domain Controller. The DC is also running AD, DNS, DHCP and WINS. I've successfully introduced an exchange 2003 running on a windows 2003 server into my exchange 5.5 organization. I am trying to move user mailboxes over to the new exchange 2003 server using the move wizard in exchange, but unable to. The event viewer is giving me the following errors: Event ID: 9175 - THE MAPI call "Open store" failed with the following error: the information store could not be opened. The logon to the microsoft exchange server computer failed ID no: 80040111-0286-00000000 Event ID: 9167 - Unable to get an administrative interface to the mailbox store on server DDS-Design error: The information store could not be opened The logon to the microsoft exchange server computer failed Event ID: 1008 Event ID: 8197 Event ID: 1005 - 0xc1050000 - network problems preventing connection to the ms exchange server computer. M<API was unable to load the information service emsabp.dll be sure the service is correctly installed and configured. MS exchange address book id no: 00040380-0000-00000000 occured I'm not sure if this is also part of the problem that I cannot move mailboxes but, Outlook is still pointing to the old Exchange 5.5 I have also read that installing Exchange to a DC, running all that is running in my DC and AD is not a good IDEA, I am wondering if I need to promote my Windows 2003 server eunning exchange to a Domain Controller or upgrade my 2000 DC to 2003. Please Help SD

Thanks. We'll let you know when a new response is added.

You do not mention whether you have installed the Active Directory Connector. Exchange 5.5 stores all of its information locally in its own directory. Exchange 2003 looks exclusively to the Active Directory for most of its information. There are also permissions that need to be in place for the two system to talk. Here is a good Technet article for you to review:

http://www.microsoft.com/technet/prodtechnol/exchange/guides/Ex2k3DepGuide/84fd1f06-cf90-43fe-b836-f21b2fa88d4d.mspx?mfr=true

Walk through it and make sure that you have executed each of the steps – I am guessing you will find a couple you missed and be able to correct the problem without too much trouble.

I also had similar issue when initially trying to perform a mailbox move using the exchange wizard, I seem to remember doing the following to get round the problem:- Dismount and remount the store where the mailboxes will be moved to, Ensure that the LDAP protocol is enabled and configured with the correct matching port (default port 389) & authentication is set correctly, It also worth while ensuring that Exchange 2003 is running SP2 and that the ADC is installed, connected and running the latest version (from the SP2 CD). Hope this helps.
