I have an end user who is unable to assign an activity to a contact from the actions drop down list. i.e. task, fax phone call etc. He has all the appropraite security rights.

There are lots of enterprise CRM products, mentioning the one you use would be helpful for those trying to answer your question. In the future, please use a tag for “Microsoft CRM” or “SAP CRM” etc. to place your question in the proper category and alert those reading as to what product. Thanks a bunch.
