Unable to contact domain controller for Windows Server 2003
I work for a small school - we don't have a qualified network engineer, so I do what I can. We have a MS school agreement, so have licences for 2003 server. We were given a used, but still good, server with 2003 Server installed. I attach it to a network port and the status bar shows that it is connected. However, when trying to make the server a member of our domain, I get the message that the domain controller cannot be contacted. Neither can I get to the Internet. The NIC appears to be working, with the appropriate driver installed. What should I be looking at for a solution? Thanks

Software/Hardware used:
Windows 2003 server

You might want to have a look at the TCP-IP properties of that NIC. It could have a static IP set up.

Yes make sure that your IP settings are correct as well as your AD machine should also be your primary DNS. Without this setup the machine will never be able to join the domain.

Correct, you may want adjust the TCP-IP properties for your environment. Give it an available IP address as well as point it to your existing DNS servers for name resolution.

Thanks – you were absolutely correct. The IP address was static – I put in one from our range and it works fine. I appreciate your help.
