An address like 192.168.0.0 is a “private” (non-routable) address. Such addresses will not connect between different networks. Unless you are on the same network, you can’t connect to it.

You will need to use the “public” address if you are trying to connect across the internet.

I have now asked for a free as400 user profile on rzkh.com.

The rzkh.com name should resolve to a public address. If it does, you can use the name as the address. If not, they will tell you what name you should use or will send you an address to use.

There should not be any useful address in the configuration if you downloaded it from the Mochasoft web site. Any address that shows up automatically with the product should be ignored and removed.

But if you downloaded it from a site that is made available by your organization, then an address could be correct. However, it might not be useful to you.

An organization could have pre-configured versions available. The address might work only within the local network of the organization. (That is, it could be a private (non-routable) address.

What address shows up? Where are you connecting from?

You need to find out the Host name or IP address of the AS/400 you are trying to connect to first.
Then try pinging the Host/Address if successful and still cannot use the telnet command then they either have telnet shut off (which I doubt) or are using a Exit point program to restrict.
You mentioned from home in your question are you trying from home if so are you vpn’d to your network where the AS/400 resides

Something that will run on your home PC and pretend to be a ‘real’ AS400/iSeries? If so that is not what you have downloaded.

You have a 5250 terminal emulator there, which requires a REAL AS400/iSeries to connect to.

The last system emulator that I was aware of was Baby/400 (I think) and is no longer available. Oh, and it certainly wasn’t free!

Is it a server at school or business? You should speak with your server administrator for more information on how to connect. You just cannot install a telnet client and get it to connect.

When I opened the TN5250 emulator after installation, it had an IP address under the tab ‘AS400 server’ . I did not enter it. So I am assuming that it is the AS400 server which I have to connect to.

Also I am not able to telnet that IP address, it says ‘ Unable to connect to the …. Address at port 23′

If any of you can share your email id, I can send the screen shots of what is happening exactly.

I don’t know what that means.

You can’t use a Mochasoft “default” address to access your AS/400. You have to supply an address.

Can you successfully telnet to your AS/400 from the Windows 7 command line?
