Ultimate Cleaner problem


Viruses, Antivirus

I have a computer that has the Ultimate Cleaner home page hijaker on it. I've used Sympatico antivirus and Windows Defender to get rid of it. The programs did find a bunch of things including Ultimate Cleaner and it said that it deleted it but it is still there. How can I get rid of this darn thing!!!!!! Please help me.

Boot the computer into Safe-Mode and run those programs again. Check you services and make sure any references of Ultimate Cleaner are disabled. Also go into your startup with by typing 'msconfig' at your Run prompt. Look for anything related to Ultimate Cleaner and uncheck it. Now delete any directories and files associated with the program. Restart your computer and it should be gone.

I assume the program has an uninstall process but doesn’t really do that. If you have Hijack This, run it and look for the entries noted in the above link, and then carefully go into your registry and remove the offending bits and pieces.
Another good tool (not free) for registry etc hygiene is JV 16 Power Tools.
When tap dancing on your registry it is prudent to make a back up copy of it (JV 16 will do this for you) in case you need to revert.
