SQL provides many builtin functions as a standard part of the language. You can add to the language by creating "user defined" functions. There is no 'member type'. They aren't members; they are registered with DB2 by executing a SQL CREATE FUNCTION statement.

Your CREATE FUNCTION statement can be stored in any source file text member if you want. Or you can store the SQL statement in a streamfile in a directory or anywhere you want to save it.

You don't have to save it at all. It might just be executed through the interactive STRSQL command or through iSeries Navigator's 'Run SQL Scripts' feature.

The SQL CREATE FUNCTION statement is documented in the SQL Reference manual along with all other SQL statements.
