 Twinax to LAN
Hi there experts, in need of your help once more. I have an old 800, which has been turned off a long time ago. Now, I can´t get to operations console because, I believe, the console configured is Twinax. How can I force the system to LAN console? Thank you very much.

We are on v5r3 so our link is “http://publib.boulder.ibm.com/infocenter/iseries/v5r3/index.jsp” and search for “LAN CONSOLE”.  It will give you the info you need.

Is this only a question about a console? Or is there no connectivity at all through network interfaces? Do you know all necessary security passwords (e.g., DST and SST)? — Tom

well, i don’t know any passwords, don’t even know if there’s an OS installed. But the ethernet card blink. I just believe i can’t get console because the Twinaxial is configured.

If you intend to use an existing configuration on the system, you’ll need to know a security DST/SST password in order to get a LAN console connection. If you begin with a twinax console (and the system starts) and you know any *SECOFR password, you could potentially work your way to creating a new LAN console. Otherwise, you’ll need to start from an install of the OS.

A ‘console’ connection to a large server system is not going to be allowed just because some PC can access an IP address. The server will demand some high security credentials.
