trying to get MS VPN client to work w/ SonicWALL VPN server

VPN, SSL, SonicWALL, Error 789

Greetings.

I'm pretty new to networking and VPN stuff (read: be gentle ;-) and am trying to get a MS VPN client to work w/ the SonicWALL server. I suspect I need to create a SSL cert on the server but not sure. I can connect with a SonicWALL client, but we'd like to use the MS client.

When I try to connect I get an 'Error 789' that says, "The L2TP connection attempt failed because the security layer encountered a processing error during initial negotiations with the remote computer".

I have my MS Client configured thus (using Windows XP):
Security:
- Security Options:
* Typical
o Require data encryption (have tried it w/ and w/o this but get the same error)
- Networking
* Type of VPN: L2TP IPSec VPN
o Settings
- Enable LCP extensions
- Enable software compression

My Sonic client has the following settings:
- User Authentication: 'the peer does not allow saving of username and password'
- Peers: one peer defined

Any thoughts on what I need to do to overcome the Error 789 when connecting to SonicWALL VPN from a MS client?
