Trouble opening Group Policy
When I try to open Group Policy on my company domain controller, I receive the error message:
“The Domain Controller for Group Policy is not available”
Also, in the Event Viewer application log there are a lot of error logs with Event ID 1058:
“Windows cannot access the file gpt.ini for GPO CN={31B2F340-016D-11D2-945F-00C04FB984F9},CN=Policies,CN=System,DC=EmbeeGroup,DC=local. The file must be present at the location <EmbeeGroup.localsysvolEmbeeGroup.localPolicies{31B2F340-016D-11D2-945F-00C04FB984F9}gpt.ini>”
“Configuration information could not be read from the domain controller, either because the machine is unavailable, or access has been denied.”
“Group Policy processing aborted.”
Does anyone have any advice as to a solution to this issue before I go ahead with my image backup?
Also please note that this Microsoft article (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/257435) is describing my problem, but the solution is not workable.

There are a few things that I can think of:
1. Permissions - Does everyone trying to use GP editor have the proper permissions to do so.
2. See if the Sysvol on the PDC is shared properly.
3. Does your domain controllers have multiple NICs? I do believe Microsoft has an issue with multi-homed Domain Controllers.
4. Make sure all of your DNS settings are correct. I've noticed some users that have a SAN connectec via iSCSI to the DC and the IP address is resolving to the SAN and not he proper IP address of the DC.
