I need help learning how to create a file transfer from the AS400 to an Excel spreadsheet using Reflection. I am not a "techie"; what I've learned has come from countless hours of using the "help" button and reading technical blogs.

I knew how to create DTF requests when our company was using Client Access with the AS400 but I'm stumped as to how to create a DTF and have that info go to an Excel spreadsheet now that we are using Reflection. Reflection seems to be sending my data request to a file ending with .rvs (?) and I'm not understanding how to take that data and sent it to an Excel spreadsheet.

It's been about 3 years since I've needed to create these, and i seem to recall that after I initiated the request from the AS400, the data would go to a file ending with .FDF  and another ending with .DTF.  I'm not seeing these two file extensions with Reflection?

Any help will be much appreciated.

Thanks in advance, Jill

Thanks. We'll let you know when a new response is added.

Have you tried looking at 3rd party softwares that allows the extraction of AS400 data in Excel sheets ?

Hi Jill, It's been about 10 years since I used Reflections and I didn't keep my notes. I bet the Attachmate support site would have information available to help you. http://www.attachmate.com/Support/Support.htm

Reflection seems to be sending my data request to a file ending with .rvs... I don't have Reflections available. Can you copy/paste a couple lines from an example of a .RVS file? Tom

Hi TomLiotta, I wish I could copy/paste some info from the .rvs file, but I haven't found the appropriate program to be able to open it?!? I'm going to see what I can learn from the Attachmate site. Hoping their knowledge base can answer some of my questions. My biggest fear is that I know just enough to really make a mess of things! ha-ha Thank you for your support and help, -jill

I wish I could copy/paste some info from the .rvs file, but I haven’t found the appropriate program to be able to open it? Sorry, I was assuming that Notepad would show intelligible data if you opened the file with it. Does it? Or does Notepad show the data as some type of binary data? Tom

This is one method I use. Click on the transfer button. Click on from host. Click on the output file drop down at the bottom of the screen. Select spreadsheet. After downloading the file bring this file up in excel and it will load the data correcly.
