I wiped the hard drive and installed WinXP Pro on a Toshiba Satellite A105-S4254. All good except canNOT access office network at all. Device Manager does not show a NIC. From Toshiba's site I installed the "Toshiba Fast Ethernet LAN Adapter Driver for Windows XP/2000, but still nothing listed under "Network adapters" but a 1394 (FireWire) Net Adapter. Where to from here?

Look in Control Panel for Toshiba HWSetup. Click the LAN tab, and make sure Built-in NIC is enabled. If it’s disabled, Windows won’t see it in Device Manager. Click OK, and Windows will ask you to reboot. The NIC should appear in Device Manager after rebooting.

Labnuke99:
Is the NIC disabled in the BIOS? There could be some physical problem with the NIC. Try also having a cable plugged into the adapter when doing the installation. Do a search for new hardware also and see if any new devices are found.

If "Toshiba HWSetup" isn't present in Control Panel, download and install the Toshiba utilities for your model from the downloads section of Toshiba's website,

One other thing that laptops are notorious for: turning off the NIC to conserve battery power. Make sure you boot up with the laptop plugged in and running from its AC adapter.
