 time sync issues
We have a sudden issue with time sync across the domain. Server 2003 native functional level. My computer time went from 3:15PM to 11:30PM and access to resources is unavailable as a result. My question is, does anyone have any knowledge of a virus released which will do this? We know what to do to fix it, just wondered if a virus caused it. We are in the investigation stage

Answer Wiki:
I have not heard of a virus that does this but it does sound like maybe someone changed timezones if you are GMT-8 (US Pacific Standard Time). That would take it ahead the 8 hours if someone changed timezones to GMT. *************** technochic Turns out it was not a time zone issue or a virus. Apparently one of my team members moved the PDC to a VM and it was the only VM he had set up which derived its time from the local host instead of the primary time server. And for some reason it took its time from the BIOS which did not update when the OS time was changed when it was set up. Very odd all the way around but it changed the time for the entire domain. Didn't take long to find the problem and correct it. He had moved the PDC to several different VMs over the last month and yesterday finally hit this one that took down the entire house of cards. Sweet! Yeah he has to face the inquisition over it, but he's still here and no other VMs are set incorrectly so this will not happen again. Fun fun fun!
