Time Management

I recently upgraded an AS/400 to V5R3. It is my understanding that there is some sort of time management software that allows for an automatic time adjustment during DST. I know that one of our systems has this installed, so that the time automatically changes; however, on the second box, it doesn't appear to be present. I did not participate in the upgrade on the first system, so I am unsure what was done differently. Can anyone tell me what should be installed so that I can have the correct time on both systems? Thanks!

Hi,

This is part of TCP/IP, is called SNTP (Simple Network Time Protocol), conforms to RFC2030, uses 2 system values QTIMADJ and QTIMZON and I think you will have to configure it through iSeries Navigator.

Best of luck.

Okay.. I checked our other system, which automatically adjusts the time for DST and SNTP is installed, but stopped; however, that system has the correct time. Also, in iSeries Navigator under configuration and management for that system there is system value and then time management; however, the other system only shows system value. Any other ideas? SNTP is on both and stopped on both. Thanks!

Hi, I found another value that affects time management - system value QUTCOFFSET. This is set in DST and cannot be changed with a WRKSYSVAL or CHGSYSVAL. To change this value do a manual IPL to the 'IPL Options' display and change the 'System time zone' value. Do some reading on Information Center about QUTCOFFSET and see if this is what you require. Best of luck.
