Does anyone have a definitive definition on tiering?

I have seen a mix of thoughts out there.

Thanks. We'll let you know when a new response is added.

Tiering in it’s simplest form is identical to steps going into the house. This “thinking” can hopefully point you to whatever tiering you are referring to (Storage, Applications, etc.). The bottom steps would be considered “Tier 3″, middle steps “Tier 2″, top steps “Tier 1″, and within storage in particular you will here “Tier 0″. Tier 0 can be considered the floor mat “welcome sign” by the door.

I was actually refering to Storage/Backup/Restore tiering. Starting at tier 3 up to 0. There appears to be differnt definitions with 3 beiong say tape and 0 SSD.
