Thunderbird and IE v6 and SSL

SSL, Internet Explorer security, mozilla, Thunderbird

When I bring up Thunderbird mail client, it warns me that it cannot set up a secure connection with IE v.6 (or words to that effect), with the reason given that it believes IE has SSL switched off. IE Tools shows that several versions of SSL have check boxes checked on.

I am wondering if this is a simple compatibility issue between T-bird and IE6, or if malware is at work. My computer is protected by AVG for virus and Counterspy for spyware.

Any thoughts or tips are appreciated! Thanks
