I have a thumb drive with items saved on it. All of a sudden my computer is saying the drive is not formatted and wants to do so. How can I open the thumb drive and will I lose the information saved on it?

Thanks. We'll let you know when a new response is added.

If the computer tells you it is not formatted then it is not reading the information on it any more. Do you have another computer you can try to read the thumb drive? If you try it on another computer and get the same results then you will lose what is stored on it, yes.

You might be able to use a utility like this to recover the daya one the drive.
Good Luck!

There might be a problem with the hardware part of your flash drive. It might be a partition error or a total hardware error, the best thing you can do is to test the device using another computer unit. If it still didn’t work, you really need to purchase a news storage device.

Try another dive if you have one to see if the USB port on the computer is the problem. Other than that try the one in question on another computer. If you are luck you may be able to recover your data and put it on a new drive...These drives are pretty though, I had on in my pocket and forgot to remove it. It went through the washer and dryer and it still works..
