    That would depend on who is doing the Beta testing. If the beta testing is being done by the customers who are the end users of the application then it would be post release. If the beta testing is being done by the QA group, then it would be pre-release.

    I think Beta Testing is always done by the end user – a post QA testing phase but definitely prior to formal release of the product for all users intended for.
