In my experience with BRMS, it is best to develop a numering scheme for your tapes on a 14, 30 day retention depending on your needs, and BRMS will just grab the next available tape number. If it uses tape 10 one day, it will look for tape 11 the next. I also have not found where you can specify a specific tape and wouldn't want to. You would have to maitain the tape ID everyday in BRMS and that could be a hassle. If you do the tape numbering, ensure that you have BRMS maintenance running everyday and have your media policy expire the tape a day or 2 before you expect to use it again or your backup will fail with and unexpired tape. If you have a media library for a tape drive, I've seen people insert just one tape to ensure that tape is used.
