 Tape Expiration
Does anyone know how to automatically check a tape to make sure that it has not expired before running a backup. I know you can use BRMS but we do not have BRMS on our system. We have set up the backups to put an expiration date on them but if the operators put the wrong tape in I get a call at 3:00am. I would like to have the system check that the tape in the drive has not expired before the backup runs. Thank you Ellen

You could try the INZTAP command with a CHECK parameter of *FIRST (assuming all files on the tape have the same expiration date). If the first file is still active you will will get error CPF6754. I haven’t tried this, but the documentation is in the help text for INZTAP.
