I need to find a quick and cheap mainframe testing tool for an insurance application. The client will not spend the dollars till the concept is proven. I have looked for open source for the mainframe and found nothing. The client is running a batch system processing input are batch claims. Any help or direction would be great.

Error 1027 on CICS Sockets Connect

I receive return code 1027 from connect API.
My client application can connect lot of times, but some times I receive the 1027. The conccurent server is an UNIX system that remains working and accepting new connections.
How can I do the connect work? I try the connect again, in the same task, but the result was the same 1027 on return code.

hi,
i want to transfer a file by a batch-job (which is running on the mainframe) from a mainframe to a windows system. the file should be transferred in binary mode. the problem is that i need the cr/lf at the end of the records in the file after i transferred the file to the windows system. do you know how i can set the parameters for the ftp to solve the problem. thanks in advance!

how will the actual and formal variables get attached,i mean what values would be passed to the main programme.

problem while accessing a Temporary dataset

hello,

i have about 25 steps in my jcl, in the 4th step i have created a temporary data set and passed it to subsequent steps(5th,6th,9th and so on).

while accesing it in the 7th step an ABEND occurs and the job terminates abnormally.
now i want my jcl to RESTART from step 7th itself.

how would i do that.

CICS “SEND MAP” and “RECEIVE MAP” QUESTION

I have a issue with low-values on my CICS map being converted to spaces.

I am sending a map with free form text on it in positions 1 thru 70. In the example below the user has entered free form text data in positions 1 thru 39 ending with a blank in position 39. The blank in position 39 is part of my text. The low values are not part of the text. When I go to RECEIVE this map the low values get converted into spaces and I cannot now determine that these was a single blank at the time of the SEND MAP. Do you know if there is something about CICS that converts low values into spaces automatically. I need to find a way to stop this conversion.

Batch Password Changes

I initiate many FTP sessions to many AS400′s via a MVS mainframe. The problem I am running into is that I need to change the passwords periodically. I need to find a method to do this in a batch mode. I think I should be able to use the QUOTE RCMD but have been unable to come up withthe correct syntax.

COBOL conversion to Java vs .Net

Our CIO has announced that he wants to eliminate the mainframe by the end of FY 07-08. We are in the strategic planning phase currently and are examining the options.

Our current system is z890-2086 running z/OS 1.4, CICS/TS, CA-7 job scheduler, CA Top Secret etc. Our criminal justice system runs on a Datacom/DB database. Most program source is COBOL with some Assembler and a few IDEAL modules.

I am fairly familiar with Micro Focus and Fujitsu methods for converting IBM S/390 COBOL to an “Intel” Windows or Linux platform.

The real unknown is Java. The CIO seems bent on converting to Java because that’s what he’s hearing from the main person who has his ear (that person is NOT mainframe or COBOL experienced, he is a web developer/java guy).

What I’d like to hear from you folks is:
1) What, if any, code conversion is available to convert
COBOL to Java OTHER THAN LegacyJ. This would include
both CICS online as well as batch programs AND the JCL
(jobs, procs, and cntllib members etc.)

2) If the code can be converted, what automated job
scheduling is available for the batch environment.

3) Which would conversion (Micro Focus, Fujitsu NetCobol,
Java or ?) would you recommend and why?

4) My gut says Fujitsu’s NetCobol is the way to go
because 1) they can basically replicate the entire
justice system (CICS and batch etc.) on either Windows
or Linux, and 2) because if the converted/migrated
system stayed in place long-term, COBOL expertise may
not have to be retained in-house as much as it would
for the Micro Focus solution… both of which are
enjoying very good success on large, complex systems
these days.

5) Any of your observations/real-life knowledge I didn’t
address that we should consider.
