We very recently migrated our Justice system from an IBM z890 running Z/OS 1.4 with CICS/TS and CA’s Datacom?DB database to IBM pSeries servers running AIX with Unikix TPE/BPE. Terminal emulation was, and remains Attachmate/WRQ Reflection TN3270 for IBM.

The day after cutover we began getting calls from users saying they had lost their terminal connection to the system and were unable to get back onto the system.

After a bunch of investigation, our network guys discovered that the Sheriff’s network has a default connection timeout setting of 30 minutes.

Question:
Why is it that this network connection timeout had no affect on terminal sessions whatsoever while connected to the Z/OS system, but is noticable when connected to Unikix TPE under AIX. As mentioned above, the terminal emulationsoftware is exactly the same, the only changes were the host name and the port.
