Active Directory 2003 backup
As far I know, Volume shadow copy is the best tool to take backup for this purpose. In windows 2008, u may use WBADMIN tool.

I would take a look to see where your internal DNS servers are forwarding to. Within DNS Manager, go to the properties of one of your dns servers and go to the Forwarders tab. That strange IP you seeing may be listed here. This strange IP may have been an old ISP’s dns server.

Maybe corrupt but usually it will not start the service if so. Here is a way to fix a corrupt active directory: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/258062 Otherwise I am not sure what is going on there hopefully you backed up your Active directory so you can restore it.
