We had been experiencing authentication issues with our Exchange server connecting to our DC. The domain controller had a trust issue with Exchange, so we determined there was a corruption in the user account associated with the Exchange server. We disjoined and then rejoined the Exchange server, and it appears to be authenticating successfully now.

The issue I need to resolve is to properly reconfigure the Exchange mail host. The Mdbdata directory is intact on another partition, but I have several error messages in the event logs associated with Exchange. These include: Event ID 1042 – Metabase Update failed to read the Configuration namespace property from the domain controller. Error code is 80040a01; Event ID 2114 – Process MAD.EXE (PID=3536). Topology Discovery failed, error 0x80040a02 & Process INETINFO.EXE (PID=1664). Topology Discovery failed, error 0x80040a02. ME Information Store service also fails to start.

What is the best way to restore the Exchange server to the previous configuration?

Thanks!

I have a network of around 30 users, On Friday and Today (Monday), I have one user who cannot connect to one of the servers. This server has the “public folder” that everyone has access to as well as a few other folders that are permission controlled. He still can access his E-mail via exchange, as well as see and access other servers on the network. Everyone else can continue to access the public folders , as well as the other folders on the problematic server. Having the user restart his machine does no good. If I restart the problematic server, then he has access to it. He is the only person having this problem, and the problem seems to be server based. The user’s workstation is running Windows XP SP3. The server is running Windows Server 2003 SE SP2. The various folders are mapped to the users systems as drives.
Thank you!
