Hello,

Our organisation has a very old legacy app running under Domino 5.0 on a Dell Server on Windows 2000 Server. It is totally read-only, and just has to be there for cross-reference. Ideal solution is to virtualise onto our Vsphere platform. Made several attempts using VMware Standalone Converter 4.x and 3.03. Conversion always successful, but when the virtual server comes up and the Domino Server starts, we get the following message in the console, and none of the clients can connect.

[strong]10/08/2011 17:17:11 Server started on Physical Node XXXXXX[/strong]

[strong]10/08/2011 17:17:11 error on listen function: NETBIOS unit/lana number specified in NOTES.INI is not valid on this system or a network is not started[/strong]

Message repeats a number of times, then

[strong]10/08/2011 17:17:11 Listener task for port LAN0ip is suepending for 20 seconds due to listen errors[/strong]

[strong]10/08/2011 17:17:11 Router: Unable to obtain Internet Host and domain names [/strong]

The startup completes , but the users are unable to connect.

We have no Notes/Domino expertise on site, but we do have Windows/VMware/networking skills .We are guessing it is related to the network hardware changing and that Notes/Domino needs to be told somehow (NOTES.INI ?) . Please can anyone help with some simple troubleshooting steps/best way forward. each time we have done this we have had to roll back to the physical server, most frustrating !!

Thanks & Regards

Mick

My plan is to move the application one at a time test them, then commint them to the new server. I only need one or two of the clients to log on to the test server and when done relog on to the main server. The clients are running XP. I am an oldtimer in the computer field but do not have a lot of experience with servers. If you “guys” can help me that will be great. Thanks in advance

I wanted to perform a quick P2V migration of an old Server 2000 box that runs a couple of undocumented automated processes like file transfers.

P2V utilities like Disk2VHD utilize the Shadow copy services within windows and the copy process fails because VSS is not available in server 2000.

We’re using Hyper-V at this location and not sure if anyone has any recomendations here? (I could try to image the server using Ghost or Clonezilla then try restoring the image file onto a virtual server, but that’s going to require another site visit)

It’s a satellite office that has devoured enough of my time this year but not virtualizing this old white box leaves me short one tick mark on that bedpost! (If ya know what I’m saying!)

I’d appreciate any recomendations.

Have an application server with 2 NICs.

LAN1 = corporate network (in which clients connect to server for app use) LAN2 = DSL internet & remote connection

The application on this server is designed to send alerts to the clients (connected via LAN1) and it also has email functionality (configured using POP3) that needs to be outbound via LAN2 due to LAN1 blocking this traffic.

Right now, LAN1 does not have a default gateway defined which is allowing the email functionality to work just fine, clients can connect to the server’s app via LAN1 fine as well, but the alerts that the app is supposed to send to the client does not work.

When I disable LAN2 completely, clients connect to the server’s app fine and the application successfully sends alerts to the clients as it is designed to do, but the email functionality no longer works because of the blocked outbound traffic.

What is the proper way to set this up? Is it something that can be correcting using static routes? RRAS perhaps?
