I am trying to install this program on a Windows 7 OS, and I’m having a very difficult time. I have a 64-bit computer, but I’m trying to install the 32-bit version (x86) because I only have a 32-bit version at work, and I’m practicing at home what I eventually want to do at work and I want everything to be consistent.

Everything’s fine until I get to the Installation Configuration screen at the install. No matter what I do, whether I choose the default instance or choose “named instance” with MSSQLSERVER, I get validation errors saying the instance is already in use. I have no idea how to get past this, or what I’m doing wrong. There are instances at the bottom of the screen; it’s not blank, so I’m wondering if that is causing the conflict.

I tried to install sql server express 2008 with tools, so I’m wondering if that might have gone through and the instance is already there. Could that be possible? Even when I try to choose one of the instances under “installed instance”, I still get errors. I have no idea what any of this even means, let alone how to fix it. Could anyone please help? Thank you!

Could someone please help? Thank you.

I am using Window 7 32 and IE8 and when on various (any) web sites that have links the links do not work. Turned off virus software to eliminate possibility that it was causing the problem, but it made no difference. All the main sites come up properly however when I click on a link nothing happens. If I copy the shortcut to the link and paste it the link will work. Just not working in IE8 when trying to go to links on the web site.
