Following a routine anti-virus/malware scan, my users and I cannot login.

We get the login screen, enter username and password. The computer loads our settings, shows (briefly) wallpaper and icons, then saves our settings and returns to the login screen.

I have access to files via a live Linux (runs in RAM) distro but cannot find the solution anywhere. ‘Repair’ doesn’t change anything and web searches suggest that re-install may not either.

Can you help us please?

Thank you.
