I have a situation where i have linked two warehouses with separate level 1 WAP 1001 outdoor units. one acting as an access point and the other as a client. The client is connected to a dlink switch that then feeds two dumb terminals and CCTV DVR. The Access Point is connected to another DLink switch that distributes the WIMAX signal that connects the warehouses to the HQ.

My problem is that the client unit keeps losing connection to the access point at various intervals. most of the time the connection is stable but it becomes eratic every so often.

I have tried the following:

1 . Re-terminated the connections

2. Reposition the Outdoor units

3 Run a new STP cable to the Outdoor units

4 Changed the channel to automatic selection for the two units.

I am not very sure what to check for next, but i i am suspecting external interference. Could there be any other explanation and solution to this problem?

I have a netgear WG302 Access point that is giving me a headache. I can configue it and it will work fine, until my isp changes the ip address. Then I have to reconfigue it again. I have tried static routing options through the router hoping this would fix the problem. no luck. (It may have been that the access point was connected to the switch instead of the router like it is now – I have not had the time to troubleshoot this yet)

I also have the option of selecting DHCP in the access point setup, but dont know how to configure it properly and it locks up ( i think because I am trying to use similar ip/subnet info as my router.)

I think I’m close to fixing this problem, just hoping someone can clarify for me.

I do not have a static ip address from the isp.

Thanks for the help!

On a network I am working on I have a Cisco 1231 WAP that is powered via POE. The Duplex is currently set as “Half”, while the rest of the WIFI network (3 more 1230 series WAPs) is set as “Full”. This is causing the device to throw an error once per second. All the WAPS, including the half duplex 1231 are working, but it is making for useless error logs, as important notices tend to “scroll off” the log file before I can get to them. If I want to change Duplex on the device, I get a warning that since I am using POE, there could be problems during the necessary reboot to set the device to full duplex. I could power the device via a regular wall wart and reset it that way, but the problem is getting to it. It is installed high up on a wall, above a large press, the maintenance guy said it would take most of an afternoon to get to it using a man lift My question is this, has anybody ever reset the duplex on one of these while using POE? While I’m thinking I’m going to be spending some quality time high above the ground soon, I’d like to avoid shutting down a press and jumping though all the other hoops to get at the WAP if I don’t have to.

Thanks!
