VMware P2V Questions

Failed P2V vmdk files.
I have tried to P2V a couple of machines but they’ve failed for a variety of reasons. I hadn’t realized it, but the vmdk files weer left on the datastore rather than removed as part of the cleanup. Is it safe just to delete them?

Sysprep and Virtual Machines
Do you sysprep before P2V or after P2V? I want to create a standardized virtual machine to use as a base VM when installing different apps for different uses but not sure of when to use sysprep.
