Reconfiguring network switches as 802.1q VLAN trunks for VMware ESX implementation
My data center network switches are configured as access ports, but we are soon implementing VMware ESX. Is there an easy way to reconfigure the switches to operate as 802.1q VLAN trunks to take advantage of VMware’s VLAN management support?

4 VLANS, 3 locations, 3 Routers, No communication between Lans or VLANs
OK, here is my problem, I’m working on a project in the Test phase right now. I have 3 routers (Cisco 2811s), all running EIGRP, these are seperating 3 goegraphical regions. Each of these Routers is linked via Trunking line to a Switch which has 4 VLANs enable. According to everything I have found in [...]

Can two switches, having VLAN defined in each, communicate without the help of Layer-3 device?
If in a single L2 Switch, IPs of the same range can communicate – then what’s the need of creating a VLAN for different IP range? Can two switches (having VLAN defined in each) communicate without the help of Layer-3 device? Thank you.

IPv6 subnet size?
In IPv4 we normally design our subnets (with direct relationship to Vlan for ease of use as well) to 255 hosts using a /24 subnet mask. i.e. 10.10.10.0/24 is Vlan 10 with 10.10.10.1 being the default gateway. In IPv6 what is the thought process of creating “subnet” on a LAN and VLans? I know there [...]
